At the end of each fiscal year, after the completion of an annual external financial audit, a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for Walker County is prepared. The report for Walker County is prepared to comply with guidelines established by the Government Finance Organization of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for participation in their Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program.
Walker County has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Award consecutively for the last fourteen years. The Certificate of Achievement is valid for a period of one year. This is the highest form of recognition in governmental financial reporting. The CAFR for the year ended September 30, 2010 has been submitted for review. Criteria established by GFOA for the award include that a report be prepared to satisfy generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements and be an easily readable and efficiently organized comprehensive annual financial report.
